This collection is presented in profound honour of the poetic legacy of my maternal grandmother, Marhooma Hajjan Syed Aashiya Khatoon. A woman of immense strength and courage who bravely fought life's internal and external storms, transcribing her emotions into beautiful heartfelt verses.
She was a brilliant poet who shared her voice through All India Radio, Kavi Sammelan/ Mushairas, newspapers and anthologies during the 1980s and 1990s, while dedicating her life to securing a brighter educated future for her children.
My shared time with her was brief, captured in childhood photographs and a few treasured teenage memories before her long battle with chronic illness claimed her health. She bid farewell to this world in May 2024.
Through Aa'een e Aashiya, I hope her voice and her emotions will live forever in our hearts.
